National Gun Violence Awareness Day Programming Block

CRNY artist Jon Frier’s Anti-Gun Violence PSA will be world premiering at the beginning of the block, featuring the awesome and soon-to-be-famous Lewis The Lizard. This is the first in a series of PSAs that will focus on topics of importance to Bronx residents.

BronxTalk: Gun Violence

In the first two months of 2023 there were 93 mass shootings across the US.  This week's BronxTalk takes a look at the issue of guns from the perspective of preventative efforts and legislative possibilities, including a review of the second amendment, New York State laws, and the Supreme Court's decision. The guests are Pastor Jay Gooding of Jacobi Medical Center's SUV (Stand Up to Violence) and Sen. Luis Sepulveda. BronxTalk is hosted by Gary Axelbank.

As gun violence continues to plague our neighborhoods, Host Javier Gomez speaks with New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie on this episode of Our Home, Our Haven, Safe Streets: Bronx Forums for Neighborhood Peace. Assembly Speaker Heastie talks about gun ownership regulation through Extreme Risk Protection Orders, and other policies and legislation aimed at reducing gun violence. The Assembly Speaker discusses how the pandemic, poverty, and other social issues contribute to gun violence. He also gives us a tour of the Northeast Bronx YMCA - one of his favorite places - as an example of a space offering positive activities for all.
