On this Modern Odyssey Special with Dr. Despina Afentouli, the 201st Anniversary of the Greek Independence is commemorated with 2022 Pre-Parade Event organized by the Cultural Committee of the Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater NY in Athens Square of Queens, NY and 2022 Greek Independence Parade on 5th Ave. in Manhattan, NY. The 201st Anniversary of the Greek Independence (1821-2022) is celebrated with the participation of Greeks and Philhennes. The outbreak of the Greek Revolution led to the creation of the modern Hellenic state. This anniversary commemorates the struggle for freedom after about 400 years of slavery under the Ottoman rule and celebrates the fact that Hellenes and Philhellenes fought together for liberty. This is a kind reminder of the historic ties between the U.S.A. and Greece: the contribution of not only the American Philhellenes in Greece’s struggle for independence but also the contribution of the ancient Greek ideals to the founding of U.S.A. "Modern Odyssey Special" is a long version of "Modern Odyssey" full episodes with journalist-host and producer, Dr. Despina Afentouli, presenting more current issues and events. Modern Odyssey features interviews with thought leaders. Dr. Despina Afentouli views the adventure of life as Odysseus’ epic journey to Ithaca – as a symbol of timeless values, and human stories worth telling.
