Public Health America: Dr. Mariana Byndloss

Dr. William Latimer speaks with Dr. Mariana Byndloss, an Assistant Professor of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. On this episode, Dr. Byndloss discusses how her research has demonstrated that the gut microbiota, the largest microbial community inhabiting our body, plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of various human diseases, ranging from cardiovascular disease and cancer to neuropathies. Through her research, she hopes to understand the mechanisms responsible for the imbalance in the gut microbial community (dysbiosis) and how they may explain the rise in non-communicable diseases such as obesity, cardiovascular disease and colorectal cancer. 03/08/22.
